Benoit Théberge
Partner and Indigenous Reconciliation Lead
With a steady and thoughtful presence, Benoît Théberge shares valuable insight into the social integration of projects. Known for his clarity as a communicator, he blends high-level expertise with practical field experience.
With nearly 20 years of experience, Benoît advises and supports leading companies in the mining, industrial, and municipal sectors in developing participatory approaches and building strong, credible social acceptability practices.
Throughout his career, he has led numerous public and Indigenous consultation processes for complex projects. He has also contributed to in-depth analyses and strategic recommendations to help companies improve their performance against recognized standards, particularly the Mining Association of Canada’s “Towards Sustainable Mining” (TSM) protocol.
Benoît is widely recognized for his strong understanding of Indigenous rights and realities. He is a trusted advisor to both companies and communities, guiding them in the creation of meaningful consultation and negotiation mechanisms. His approach to social acceptability is grounded in concrete commitments and tangible responses to community and Indigenous concerns, rather than simple statements of intent.
He has built long-standing relationships with major players in the mining industry, while also working directly with Indigenous communities to develop constructive dialogue and collaboration processes.
As an expert in Indigenous reconciliation, Benoît is the lead architect of Transfert’s Reconciliation Plan, which we developed in collaboration with the Ashukan Institute.
Before joining Transfert, he served as a senior advisor at the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada, where he coordinated more than twenty environmental and social assessments of major projects. In this role, he oversaw the Canada-Cree and Canada-Inuit review committees established under the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement.
