Marie-Hélène Gauthier

Trained as a lawyer and accredited mediator, Marie-Hélène Gauthier is a quiet force with whom everyone enjoys working. Her rich and committed background makes her an exceptional mediator and facilitator.
After completing her law studies at the Université de Montréal, she was admitted to the Quebec Bar in 1994 and obtained a graduate diploma in management from the École des hautes études commerciales in 1995.
At the same time, from 2011 to 2020, she was a lecturer in the Department of Legal Sciences at the Université du Québec à Montréal, where she taught municipal law, environmental law and major risk management. She was also a lecturer at the Faculté de l’aménagement de l’Institut d’urbanisme de l’Université de Montréal.
Acting President of the Bureau d’audiences publiques sur l’environnement (BAPE) from July 2022 to 2023, her tenure was a notable one, as she led several projects simultaneously, including an in-depth review to consolidate BAPE’s governance and prioritize its initiatives, as well as assiduously monitoring the progress of various projects, promoting team mobilization.
From 2012 to 2022, she held the positions of part-time additional member, full-time member and then vice-president. Over the years, she has taken part in a dozen commissions of inquiry, the vast majority of which she chaired, as well as one mediation as commissioner in charge. Marie-Hélène has been a member of the Institut de médiation et d’arbitrage du Québec (IMAQ) as an accredited mediator since 2017.She has also sat on the Science and Knowledge Technical Advisory Committee of the Canadian Impact Assessment Agency since 2022.
