On April 29, 2026, the mining ecosystem in Abitibi‑Témiscamingue and Northern Québec reached an important milestone with the official announcement of the Social Investment Fund of the Mining Industry (FISIM). Established through a partnership between local stakeholders, including Transfert Environment and Society, and Centraide AbitibiTémiscamingue and Northern Québec, the Fund reflects a shared commitment to structuring the social benefits associated with mining development.

What is the FISIM?

Abitibi‑Témiscamingue and Northern Québec are some of the most active mining regions in Canada, where the industry plays a major role in the economy and employment. Yet, social needs remain pressing and are growing.

The FISIM aims to ensure the sustainability of social investments, support community organizations and collective initiatives, and strengthen the social fabric of these regions in alignment with their economic development, going beyond one‑time donations and sponsorships.

Transfert’s commitment

At Transfert, we have spent 30 years building bridges between organizations and communities. We know that projects rooted in local territories must also actively contribute to the sustainable development of the communities that host them.

This conviction is at the heart of our mission and values. It is reflected in our social initiatives, our Pro Bono program, our support for research and emerging professionals, through the André Delisle Scholarship in public participation, as well as in our commitment to collaborating with local stakeholders to generate positive and lasting outcomes.

“We’re proud to join our voice with other regional stakeholders to create lasting impact and serve as a catalyst for social value creation,” said Cédric Bourgeois, Founding Partner and Vice President, Strategy and Communications.

A Collective, forward-looking approach

By bringing together mining industry stakeholders, community partners, and organizations committed to regional development, the FISIM creates the conditions needed to generate long‑term social benefits aligned with local realities.
