Sherbrooke, November 1, 2024 – Transfert (TES) is pleased to announce the awarding of the 3rd André Delisle Fellowship in Citizen Participation to El Hadji Samba Sougou. A civil engineer and master’s student in environmental management at the Université de Sherbrooke, his final-year project focuses on the sustainable management of urban rainwater.

Working with municipalities, urban planners and local stakeholders, Samba’s participatory approach aims to involve Magog’s citizens in the design and implementation of water management solutions. Consultations, interactive platforms and surveys will enable residents to take an active part in thinking about the development of their territory, and at the same time raise their awareness about water issues and the importance of adapting to climate change.

In addition to a cash bursary, André Delisle bursary winners receive professional coaching from one or more members of the TES team. In Samba’s case, he will be mentored by Véronique Frigon, Project Manager and Director of the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean office, who will offer him ten hours of consulting services tailored to his needs.

As a reminder, in the spring of 2023 TES donated $75,000 to the Centre universitaire de formation en environnement et en développement durable de l’Université de Sherbrooke (CUFE) for the creation of the Bourse André Delisle en participation publique to support students working on issues related to citizen participation and the environment.

Alongside its commitment to supporting the next generation of researchers, and advances in the fields of social acceptability and public participation, TES’ philanthropic contribution is intended to contribute to the training of the next generation of specialists and the emergence of new talent.

TES is pleased to support Samba’s project, which will contribute to the promotion of informed citizen participation. The third student to benefit from the André Delisle Bursary, prior to Samba, were a student team who developed a highly successful public consultation plan for the Organisme de bassin versant du Lac-Saint-Jean, and a student writing her final-year essay on a good neighbor dispute between a company and its host community.
