Made public in January, the Feuille de route pour un développement harmonieux de l’activité minière 2024-2025 marks another step towards more responsible mining development, specifically from the perspective of social acceptability in Quebec.

Transfert is proud to have contributed to its creation through various consultation activities, which have created rich spaces for dialogue between all key actors concerned by mining development. This roadmap aims to respond to current challenges by proposing concrete and ambitious initiatives in terms of environmental protection, quality of life for citizens and cohabitation with First Nations.

A word about the approach

The participatory approach was based on a rigorous methodology, mobilizing a range of stakeholders – governments, local communities, indigenous communities, environmental organizations and mining companies – through structured and inclusive consultations supported by our team. These exchanges enabled us to gather concrete concerns and proposals, so that priorities would reflect real needs on the ground.

Four pillars to guide the mining sector of tomorrow

The results of this process have made it possible to establish a shared vision for the future of mining, based on 4 key areas:

  • Area 1: Improved predictability of mining activity

Plan mining activities transparently and efficiently, allowing them to coexist harmoniously with other land uses.

  • Area 2: Increased knowledge of the mining sector

Strengthen the collection and dissemination of geoscientific data, to support responsible and informed mining development.

  • Area 3: Benefits for local and indigenous communities

Maximize economic and social benefits for local and indigenous communities, by ensuring their active participation in mining projects.

  • Area 4: Best practices in environmental protection

Adopt rigorous environmental standards and use innovative technologies to reduce the ecological footprint of mining operations.

Ready for the challenge?

Achieving these ambitious goals will require an unprecedented mobilization of all key actors and the implementation of innovative solutions to meet the complex challenges linked to the environment, communities and the economy. The Transfert team will be delighted to help you achieve your objectives and implement the actions required in the four areas covered by this roadmap.
