Carried out in February 2016, the consultation workshop project on eternal waves followed mobilizations from the community. These waves are created by a particular rocky relief on the river bottom that allows surfers and kayakers to maintain a stationary position on the wave. Informal sports practice is a cause of bank erosion and raises safety and development issues.
TES wanted to deepen the understanding of the eternal waves issue, and to develop a consensus for the sectors under study (frequentation, code of conduct, access to other waves, complementary or conflicting uses, etc.). Each workshop had its own specific objectives.
Per the participants, the consultation process initiated by the Ville de Montréal brought together a wide range of stakeholders, while achieving a strong consensus in favor of formalizing the practice of sports on the eternal waves. The participants congratulated this long-awaited initiative for creating cohesion and structuring a common vision.
